Sugar!

I absolutely love candy and sweets. You should see me right now. I have a Snickers Bar opened on my desk. What kind of world would it be without candy and sweets? You already know all the children in the world would be sad. When I was a kid I couldn’t get enough sugar and candy. I would beg and cry until I got my pack of Skittles. My obsession for sweets and treat followed me into my adult years. I’m not lying when I say I can’t function without.

It’s kind of like fuel in my tank during the day, if that makes any sense. It’s hard to be honest with myself when it comes to the damage sugar can ultimately do to my body. According to this article I read I could be spiking my blood sugar, which can led me to crash later. Sugar can also trigger my body to want to overeat, something I definitely don’t want happening to my body. Who really wants to over eat?

It’s hard to stay clear of all sugars through. It is everywhere. It’s not only in all the candy I eat. You would be surprised if you found out where sugar hides.

Here Are Some Facts About Sugar.

SUGAR – gives a quick burst of energy. But the effect fades and soon you may want another drink or more food.

SUGAR – has about 4 kcalories of energy – but that’s all – it provides no other nutritional benefit.

SUGAR – Can become overwhelming to your body. When your body has more sugar than it needs for energy it begins to convert the sugar into body fat and stores it. So if you don’t do enough exercise, and keep on eating lots of sugar, your body could become bigger and bigger.

Organic Eating

I have a friend who’s a big organic food fanatic.  Until I met her, I didn’t know organic ice cream existed. And while all the foods in her house are chemically composed of organic material, would it be okay to tell her that she doesn’t have to eat EVERYTHING that’s organic?  I found an article that discussed certain foods that you shouldn’t buy that’s organic.  If you have friends who do the same, you might want to share this with them, too.

The Environmental Working group has identified 15 fruits and veggies that are least likely to be contaminated with residues left from pesticide spraying.

For a quick shopping trip, here are a few fruits and veggies that you can buy conventional:

1. Asparagus

2. Avocado

3. Broccoli

4. Cabbage

5. Tomatoes

6. Kiwi

7. Mango

8. Onions

9. Papaya

10. Pineapple

And here’s ten items that are okay to buy organic:

1. Apples

2. Carrots

3. Celery

4. Cherries

5. Grapes (imported)

6. Kale

7. Lettuce

8. Nectarines

9. Peaches

10. Pears

So next time you go to the grocery store, you can save some money when purchasing some convectional items.

RESIDENT BREAKFAST! – Fuzzy’s Breakfast Taco

RESIDENT BREAKFAST this Friday! Your very own LTB staff will be in the parking garage bright and early at 7 AM to greet you with a Fuzzy’s Breakfast Taco for you to enjoy on your way to work! Get there early before they’re gone!

“Breakfast is indeed a very important meal. A good breakfast fuels you up and gets you ready for the day.”

Why Is Breakfast So Important?

*Eating a big meal at breakfast time will ‘break the fast’ and replenish those glucose levels.

*Your brain feeds on glucose, but does not store glucose. You’ll be sharper and have better concentration when you’ve had a big breakfast.

*Glucose also feeds your muscles, so you’ll feel less tired and have more energy overall, with a big breakfast.

*Studies have shown that people who skip breakfast are generally heavier than people who eat a nutritious breakfast.

Fight The Mid-Day Slump

I don’t know about you, but I get a mid-afternoon slump every day at about 2:30. It’s something about after lunch that just gets me. Here are three tips that you can use to re-reenergize yourself in the middle of the day.

1. Plan an after work project or plan. Make specific after work plans to keep you on task with your work.

2. Take a mental break. We all need time to decompress. Take a quick mental break for 10 minutes at your desk.

3. Make a cup of green tea. With just enough caffeine to keep you awake, it also has healthy antioxidants.
